Melissa Ingram

On Friday we had the great pleasure of hosting former Olympian Melissa Ingram at Holy Cross.

She came to speak to us about her journey to get to the Olympics and the goals she had to set to get there. Melissa was a very inspiring speaker who showed us why persistence and perseverance is important when you are wanting to achieve your goal. Melissa said herself that she was never the best at swimming and was never the age group champion but keep pursuing to fulfil her dream.

Above is a video of the highlights of the 2012 Olympics.

Melissa was lucky enough to attend two Olympic games - 2008 held in Beijing and 2012 held in London where she finished 11th in the world.
She also went to three Commonwealth Games - 2002 held in England, 2006 held in Melbourne and 2010 held in New Delhi.

Melissa was one of New Zealand's most successful swimmers who competed at international level for 10 years. She started swimming competitively at the age of 7.
Thank you so much Melissa for coming and inspiring us on Friday. We now all want to go and compete in the Olympics.
We are now on the countdown until the Olympic Games start this year in Rio de Janiro in Brazil in 84 days.
